Get That Dream Body With Mediterranean Diet

Everyone dreams of having a really perfectly slim body, if not a healthier one.  Today, there are plenty of diet regiments that one can follow to make that dream possible. However, many people are still discontented with what’s currently offered, as well as the results they’re getting – and with good reason, too. After all, not every one of us has the strength necessary in living on meatless, sugar-free, low carbohydrate and zero fat diets, only to find out that they’re not as effective as we thought.

Thankfully, there is something that people can rely on when they’re looking for a diet regimen that is both pleasant and effective. It’s called the Mediterranean diet.

The Mediterranean diet is a nutritional recommendation popular today inspired by the traditional dietary patterns of Mediterranean countries namely Portugal, Spain, Southern Italy, Southern France, Greece and specifically the Greek island of Crete, hence the name. There are also certain parts of the Middle East  like Tunisia, Morocco and Lebanon that advocate this diet plan. A largely plant-based diet, it was first introduced in the 1960s.

This diet is composed mostly of food like lean red meats and meat products, fish, eggs and poultry (taken in moderation), and a high intake of fruits and vegetables, olive oil and wine. In this diet, fresh fruit is the typical dessert and olive oil is the main source of fat. The healthy components of the food help improve cholesterol regulation and lower rates of cardiovascular diseases, even reduce the risks for cancer. Since the diet emphasizes freshness, balance, and pleasure in food, the Mediterranean diet – when consumed regularly – has been proven to lower the rate of depression for people who followed it. The diet promises a slim healthy figure to the body-conscious and claims to prolong life because of the large consumption of legumes, unrefined cereals, fruits and vegetables. It is low in saturated fats, but high in good things such as monounsaturated fats and dietary fiber.

But of course, any diet plan will only succeed if it’s coupled with a regular exercise regimen and healthy living, in general. If you can commit to all of those things, though, then you’d have a lot to look forward to. Easy-to-prepare hearty and healthy Mediterranean diet recipes can be found on various websites on the internet. There are appetizers and salad dishes that are appealing to even the choosiest of tongues.
